OpenMultiLab

Responsible: Prof. Filippo Attivissimo

The OpenMultiLab is a multifunctional laboratory located on the -1 floor of the “Luigi Salvatore” building, created thanks to a project funded by the Apulia Region, through the European Social Fund*, for the implementation of actions to strengthen the orientation services provided by the Apulian universities. It is aimed to all students of the Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design degree courses of the Polytechnic University of Bari and has been managed for years by the Electrical and Electronic Measurements Research Group. The OpenMultiLab aims to develop students’ transversal skills, increase their ability to deal with technological problems, encourage dialogue between different disciplinary fields and the exchange of ideas between students of different degree courses, strengthening their ability to work in groups.

3 distinct open and multidisciplinary laboratories

ICT laboratory

Dedicated to design in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and electronics and characterized by the paradigm of non-formal learning, or learning by doing, of these technologies that pervade many aspects of daily life.

Industrial and mechatronic laboratory

Dedicated to the use and demonstration of technologies in the energy, mechanical and mechatronic fields and to the use of latest generation software for the design and simulation of these complex systems.

Multimedia laboratory for Engineering and Architecture

Dedicated to the use of the most advanced design and eco-design technologies and methodologies in multiple fields of civil, environmental, industrial and architectural engineering, also through the use of modern and flexible design and assisted drawing software.

In the OpenMultiLAB, students can continuously verify their knowledge integration process, developing their aptitudes through in-depth study in the sectors of direct interest with the aim of integrating the various skills in the fields of engineering and architecture. Each laboratory provides professional software packages, both basic and advanced instrumentation, industrial sensors, prototyping systems, technological demonstrators, consumer hardware and the expertise of teachers, researchers and technicians.

Reduce the number of students who are out of course and the dropout rate from higher education, make the student more competitive in the world of work by reducing the gap between theoretical studies and their practical application, increase their technological skills and analytical and problem solving.
